چکیده

An experiment was conducted to examine the influence of soil aggregate size on maize root growth and development. The loamy samples resulted from different number passes rotary tilling experimental runs under controlled bin were selected. texture chosen in this study sandy loam. obtained after interval 10 (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 passes) at moisture content 10.28 % (w.b). Soil collected kept for pot experiment. roots analysed 8DAE, 16DAE, 24DAE their early growth. Duncan’s multiple range tests effect showed decrease aggregates finer than 1.5 mm. decline length considerable 30 (40 passes:74.32cm, 50passes:63.77cm, 60passes:46.63cm).The declined 1.5mm attributed continuous deteriorated structure hindered starts degrading with excessive application rotavator which turn develops compacted layers 20-30cm sub depth.

The Effects of Spent Engine Oil on Soil Properties and Growth of Maize (Zea mays L.)

The effect of spent engine oil (SEO) on soil properties and growth of maize (Zea mays L.) was investigated. Five treatments (0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 l/kg) of the spent oil were applied to soil in perforated poly bags with maize stands at four weeks after sowing. Soil analysis showed that SEO had no effect on both the pH and texture of the soil. Organic C, N and Mg in the contaminated soils i...

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Sloughing of root cap cells decreases the frictional resistance to maize (Zea mays L.) root growth

Root caps provide a protective layer in front of the meristem that protects the meristem from abrasion by soil particles. The continuous production and sloughing of the root cap cells may be an adaptation to decrease the friction at the soil-root interface by acting as a low-friction lining to the channel formed by the root. Experiments were performed which provide the first direct evidence tha...

Effects of aluminum toxicity on maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings

Aluminum toxicity is one of the most deleterious factors for plant growth in acidic soils because over 50% of the world’s potentially arable lands are acidic. In recent years, considerable research has been conducted to understand the mechanisms of Al toxicity and tolerance in plants. This paper reviews the effects of different concentration of Al on plant shoot, root physiological parameters s...

Effects of Silicon on Photosynthetic Characteristics of Maize (Zea mays L.) on Alluvial Soil

The objectives of the study were to determine the effects of silicon on photosynthetic characteristics of maize on alluvial soil, including total chlorophyll contents, photosynthetic rate (P n), stomatal conductance (g s), transpiration rate (E), and intercellular CO2 concentration (C i ) using the method of field experiment, in which there were five levels (0, 45, 90, 150, and 225 kg · ha(-1))...
